PATNA: Bihar's deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is one of the most eligible bachelors in the country today -- the 26-year-old politician has received around 44,000 marriage proposals on WhatsApp.
Tejashwi, who also heads the road construction department, had launched a WhatsApp complaint helpline for Bihar's dilapidated roads on June 29. However, several people mistook it as his personal number and flooded the helpline with proposals.
"I am delighted to know so many girls like me, but for now I am busy with the development works of Bihar," the first-time MLA from Raghopur told reporters on Friday. He said he had left it to his parents to choose a bride for him.
When prodded further, Tejashwi asked mediapersons "to spare him". "Actors and politicians who are chased by you (media) with wedding queries remain unmarried. Rahul Gandhi is an example," he joked.
According to an RCD official, 44,000-odd of the around 47,000 messages received on the WhatsApp number in the last four months were proposals for the deputy CM.
"Many girls even gave details like gotra, height, complexion and place of birth," the official said, adding the messages came not only from Bihar but also from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
His father Lalu Prasad Yadav told TOI that Tejashwi's bride will be an "acchi ladki" (good girl) and her caste or clan won't matter. "But Tejashwi's elder brother and forest minister Tej Pratap will get hitched first," he added.
